Did you see that post on Friends of Bedford County Animal Shelter about chocolate lab mix, Ronnie? I am going to share some of his foster mom's pictures just to show you what you're missing if you didn't see it.

Ronnie's is a CHILL chocolate lab mix and is currently neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, housebroken, crate trained (foster rarely finds need to crate though), good with dogs and cats.  He loves children. He had to have surgery to have a cherry eye removed, and the eye is healing very nicely.  Ronnie is the PERFECT package of traits and is so deserving of a loving furerver family.

As background, I knew Ronnie from walking him briefly a few months ago while coming to the shelter. Ronnie was fortunate to leave the shelter when his loving foster took him into their home.  With younger children in his new foster family, it was an adjustment for Ronnie and his foster, but that is expected, especially with the surgery. Ronnie's foster family has been FABULOUS in preparing this boy for adoption as you can see by what he's already learned.

Ronnie joined us August 12 at The Orchards Apartments animal adoption event.  He is only about a year old, yet he's a mature, old soul when it comes to being around people and other dogs. He was consistently quiet and well behaved in the heat for 3 hours, never getting ruffled by the barking of one of his former sheltermates.

Also, one might suspect that Ronnie might not be looking for a play buddy, During the event, another younger dog submissively tried to engage with him, and Ronnie was not interested. He just sort of ignored him for the most part. Therefore, I think, even though he is young, he might like to be an only pup, or at least in a home with a dog that has outgrown that run/play/nip phase. But, who knows, in a different setting, he might be more interactive with other dogs, a meet and greet is recommended.

If you are considering adopting, you could not ask for a better dog than Ronnie. He is the COMPLETE package.  For more information please call the Bedford County Animal Shelter at 540-586-7690.
